ABOUT

ME

Meet Gökçe Karabay.

Born in 1982, raised in Lüleburgaz, Turkey, studied in İstanbul at Kadıköy Anadolu High School. She is still proud of being a ‘gull’ (the Kadikoy Anadolu alumni knows what that totally means).

She studied Advertising and PR at Anadolu University and was placed first out of 55 students in the department. As her first job in 2005, she worked as a scriptwriter for a live TV show called Mesut Yar’la Cümle Alem, where she was challenged to come up with creative ideas and intriguing questions to ask the celebrities.

Gökçe moved to the USA to do her Advertising MA at The University of Texas at Austin as a Fulbright scholar, switching to being a ‘longhorn’ from a ‘gull’. After graduating, LatinWorks, one of the most prestigious Latino advertising agencies in the USA, welcomed her as their creative assistant and junior copywriter. She had the chance to work with award-winning creatives from Mexico to Brazil. This learning experience consisted of a considerable amount of fun too.

Returning to Turkey; she worked as a copywriter at Dani̇ska İstanbul (for such brands as Garanti Bank, Loft Denim, Doors Group, and Tukaş Sauce), Rafi̇neri̇ (Kanal D TV Channel, Profilo Home Appliances, Beymen Luxury Chain, Akbank and Rareblossom Skincare), Ogilvy (Fanta, Atom, Zero and Cappy of Coca Cola; Philips, Dove, Ford, Huggies, Kotex, and Pizza Hut), and McCann (L’Oréal Paris and Atasay Jewellery), generating 360-degree integrated marketing campaigns (some of which have been nominated for and won awards).

After gaining experience at a range of advertising agencies, Gökçe created many projects as a freelance creative strategist and a creative team lead for a wide range of brands. She also joined the creative teams of Medi̇na Turgul DDB and Cheil Worldwide as a project-based copywriter.

She has attended writing workshops led by renowned Turkish authors and poets, Akgün Akova and Zeynep Ali̇ye, focusing on developing her own stories and scripts. Her story The Mill is published in 11 Pilots in a Museum, an anthology of stories about the toys in the Istanbul Toy Museum. Flowers and Pandora were published in PEN International’s Turkish fanzine in 2018 and 2019 respectively. She contributed to the story development of Face off, a Turkish TV series that was broadcast on Kanal D in 2019.

During her career, she has gained extensive experience in demand generation for B2B and B2C companies, including but not limited to Evocon (Estonia), Eurora (Estonia), Knowizz Intranet (Turkey), Experilabs ICT (Turkey), and currently at Roofit.Solar (Estonia). She has taken the lead on initiatives to increase web traffic and lead generation by creating engaging, SEO-friendly content that connects well with various organic channels.

Now her own story continues in Tallinn, Estonia. Most recently, she worked as Content Lead at Roofit.Solar, an award-winning integrated solar roof company from Estonia.

If she’s not working, you can find her at a milonga dancing tango, at a cafe writing a script, polishing her articles on Medium or at a bakery trying every single dessert.
